Cell division and reproduction can occur in two ways - through mitosis or meiosis. Mitosis is a process of cell duplication during which one cell gives rise to two genetically identical daughter cells. Mitosis is used by single celled organisms to reproduce and is also used for the organic growth of tissues, fibers, and mibranes.
The function of Meiosis is sexual reproduction and it only occurs in humans, animals, plants, and fungi. After division, the resulting cells are genetically different and it's possible that they can mix chromosomes.
