2 is 6% of what number?

First, create an equation using the variable n to represent the number that we're looking for: 2 is 6% of n which translates to \(2 = 6\% \times n \) .  Converting 6% to a decimal by dividing it by 100 gives us the equation 2 = 0.06n and solving for n by dividing both sides by 0.06 gives us the answer 33.33.

You know that 2 is 10% of 20. Because 6% is smaller than 10% you know that the answer to this question has to be larger than 20 but approximately the same magnitude. Knowing this you may be able to cross off a couple of possible answers (or even identify the correct answer) right from the start.
